The students of Department of Business Administration, Assam University, Silchar observed the International Day for Peace on last Friday, 21st Sept’2012 at the premises of the department. Dr. Arup Barman, Dr. Amritlal Ghosh, Dr. Bibhas Dev, Dr. Rama Prasad Biswas, Dr. Nigamananda Biswas, and Mr. Gaurav Dutta Choudhury, and Dr. Dibyojyoti Bhattacharjee (Dean, Student Welfare) along with a student congregation of the department went for a peace prayer along with an audio visual Nobel Peace Speech of Aung San Suu Ki delivered on 16th June 2012, at Oslo, Norway. Dr. Arup Barman along with the student congregation read out a peace citation with a message that the responsive management education can serve as root for peace and sustainability in several ways.
The management club of the department for the first time organized a speech competition on the issue “Management and Business Education for Peace” under the peace logo “Let Peace Prevail on the Earth” designed by CCLP-Worldwide (A Global Civil Society, Consultative to ECOSOC, UN). Eighteen (18) numbers of students participated in this speech competition and four (4) numbers of faculty delivered speech in the function. Dr. Bibhas Dev, Director of College Development Council appreciated as- it is a ground breaking steps of the management clubs and has sated a new history by observing International Peace Day for the first time at the premises of Assam University. Dr. Rama Prasad Biswas expressed on the need for observation of International Peace Day program at district and regional level of the Barak Valley. Dr. Barman, a faculty department of business administration and an office bearer of International Research and Development Council of CCLP-Worldwide expressed that much more can be done from side of business and management education for the local peace efforts by following the global institutional practices- such as Nobel Peace Forum, Oslo, Oxford University, Institute for Economics and Peace (USA) and many other legendary B-Schools of the world. The management club members expressed their opinion that all the universities of India should observe the international peace day as they are not yet observing it religiously and intellectually.
